The security scanners in Chengdu have recently generated hot discussions. The focus is on the health impact of the “Weak Photon Full Body Screening System”。

Metal detectors are used in most airports and train stations worldwide for security-check purpose.

You’ve probably experienced Full Body Scanners when taking flights outside of China.

”Millimeter wave scanners” have been deployed in the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and some airports in Canada and the United States.

(IARC,International Agency for Research in Cancer)将非电离辐射(包括毫米波与微波)列为“2B”类,即“可能致癌(Possibly carcinogenic to humans)”。

Millimeter wavelength radiation is a subset of the microwave radio frequency spectrum, belonging to the group of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. Due to the increasing ubiquity of millimeter wave radiation, research into its potential biological effects is ongoing. Though there is no specialized study pointing at the associated health risks, the WHO (World Health Organization) IARC (International Agency for Research in Cancer) in 2013 classified non-ionizing radiation such as millimeter waves or microwaves, as “2B”, which means “possibly carcinogenic to humans”.

Another type of widely used full body scanner is the Backscatter Scanner, which is based on the low density X-ray, a form of ionizing radiation. Chengdu’s “Weak Photon Full Body Screening System”, mentioned in the beginning of the article, is based on “low dose X-ray”. In another word, these two scanners are using similar technology.

In 2012,the WHO (World Health Organization) IARC (International Agency for Research in Cancer) classified ionizing radiation as “1”, which means “Carcinogenic to humans”.

∕anchester Airport)于2012年移出了该机场最后一台此种安检仪,遵循“不冒险危险公民健康和安全(in order not to risk jeopardizing citizens' health and safety”的原则。

The backscatter scanners are banned in the European Union. In 2012, the last backscatter x-ray machines were removed from the Manchester Airport following the principle of the European Union- 'in order not to risk jeopardizing citizens' health and safety.' The United States removed all the machines from its airports in 2013, following severe public disputes.

Dr. Josh Axe

Dr. Josh Axe points out these five groupsof people MUST avoid backscatter scanner

1
Older travelers over the age of 65

2
Certain females sensitive to mutagenesis- provoking radiation

3
Immune compromised individuals

4
Children and adolescents

5
Pregnant women

Dr. Stephen Sinatra-

Dr. Stephen Sinatra, a highly respected and sought-after cardiologist is taking one step further: joining the "opt out" line for a pat down until getting more clarification that any scanner is truly safe.

How will you choose?
